butter LONDON Nail Lacquer was a must-have accessory for Emmy Rossum and Giuliana Rancic as they hit the red carpet tonight for the 2013 Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Katie Hughes, butter LONDON Global Colour Ambassador, worked with both of the ladies to create their nail looks for the evening, each which played up the nights theme of “Punk: Chaos to Couture.”

The Scoop: Inspired by her soft, billowing Donna Karan dress, Katie created elegant yet edgy nail art for Emmy using extra pieces of lace – the same fabric from which her dress was created – supplied by Donna Karan. The designer also supplied Emmy with individual crystals, also used on her dress, to help enhance her nail look, adding a bit of punk rocker edge.
Nail Look How To:

• Katie began by painting Emmy’s nails with two coats of butter LONDON 3 Free Nail Lacquer $15.00 by Butter London at Sephora followed by a layer of butter LONDON P.D. Quick Top Coat.

• She then cut individual pieces of lace to perfectly cover Emmy’s nails and placed them down on the wet nails, letting the lace dry on top of the nail.
• Once the nails were dry, Katie placed glue on random spots of the nail where the crystals would be adhered, and then placed each crystal onto the nail.
“Emmy knew she really wanted to incorporate the fabric from the dress somehow, but with a twist that gave it an unexpected edge,” said Katie Hughes, butter LONDON Global Colour Ambassador. “Together we decided to use both the fabric and the stones to create a nail that was both delicate and edgy. It looked awesome.”

The Scoop: The E! News co-host gave a nod to the nights punk theme with a dark yet glam nail look to complement her Falguni Peacock dress.
Nail Look How To:

• Katie began by painting a coat of butter LONDON 'Horse Power' Nail Fertilizer $18.00 by Butter London at Nordstrom to protect Giuliana’s nails and help prolong her manicure,

followed by two coats of butter LONDON '3 Free' Nail Lacquer $15.00 by Butter London at Nordstrom.

• In order to add a bit of glam and flare to Giuliana’s nail look, Katie dropped a dollop of 3 Free Nail Lacquer Vernis - The Black Knight $15.00 by Butter London at DERMSTORE at the cuticle of each nail and then slowly dragged the nail brush down the nail to create a cascading effect.
• Katie completed the look with butter LONDON P.D. Quick Top Coat and then applied butter LONDON Handbag Holiday Cuticle Oil around the nails to help them dry faster.

I have to be HONEST, it is ALL Kim's fault.. I look at her in nude lipstick and think OMG, could I look as fab as she does? It really doesn't matter because I am so pale that nude lipstick on me makes me look like a corpse! I will never work on me but this DOESN'T stop me from looked and shopping for nude lippies.. Kim has the perfect complexion and lip structure for what I think is the BEST nude lip, I am beyond jealous but here are some of my FAVES for the moment.. I am telling you I will be the one this spring hopping around looking like Bride of Edward Scissorhards... I may look corpse-like but on the inside I will be channeling Kim!

"My point of reference for the style today was actresses in both the 40s and 70's - I think specifically of a young Jodie Foster in the 1976 film Taxi Driver. The key to these soft, voluminous curls is first the amount of product you use - if I'd used less product, it would have meant less volume when I brushed the curls out at the end. You should also focus on using a small curling iron, like the 1/2 inch irons were using today, and curling small sections of hair."

1. Apply guts 10 root targeted volumizing spray foam from roots to ends to create volume and a base for styling and rough blow-dry hair.

2. When dry, make a deep side part and then mist hair all over with iron shape 11 thermal setting mist to protect hair from the heat and help the curls hold their shape.

3. Start to pin curl hair in small sections with a 13mm (1/2-inch) curling iron, making sure to leave the top 2-3 inches on the drown uncurled. Pin each curl to the the head with setting pins as you curl.

3. When finished curling the whole head, leave to set and when then when hair has cooled unpin each curl.

4. When finished unpinning each curl, run fingers lightly through curls and then gently brush out with a boar bristle brush for more volume.

5. Backbrush the top front section and then sweep the section across the forehead and secure in place with a bobby pin.

"I'd describe the clean, polished side braid I created at Valentino today with the word monastic - fit for the young beauty the designer envisioned when creating this collection. The inspiration for the hair and clothes was a number of portraits by Dutch masters- which is a very Valentino setting, and this braid really encompasses that feeling with its center part and the high forehead. She's a simple, young girl but she still has style, and every girl can relate to it which makes it more personal, even intimate - and also reflects the appeal of the brand itself. I've done a side braid before, but it was always sexier, like at Alexander Wang a few years ago - this one is more minimal, but there's a certain level of seduction in the innocence."

03/05/13: A model presents a creation for Valentino during the Fall/Winter 2013-2014...

Create the Look - Valentino

1. Apply Redken satinwear 02 prepping blow dry lotion to damp hair from roots to ends and blow-dry straight with a boar bristle brush.

2. Create a clean center part, and then use a fine tooth comb to brush hair to one side (the side that the braid will fall on- in the show it was the models' left) from the back (so center part stays intact).

3. Tuck the side of the hair you will braid behind the ear and then rub a small amount of satinwear 02 into your hands to help you as you start to braid, beginning a few inches down from the neck, keeping your wrists and elbows low as you go.

4. Create a braid that's smooth but not too tight, and secure with an elastic at the tip, leaving only an inch or two unbraided at the end.

5. Put a few drops of NEW Redken Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine (launches MAY 1) on your hands, rub together to emulsify, and lightly run your hands over the hair on either side.

6. Slide the leather band over the head so that it rests 2-3 inches back from the forehead and covers the front of the ears.

7. Mist with Redken fashion work 12 versatile working spray to finish.

Apply Redken All Soft Argan-6 multi-care oil to damp hair and blow-dry straight with a boar bristle brush working section by section for a smooth finish. Next create a clean side part, then gather hair at the base and twist into a low chignon, pinning as you go so that the pins are as invisible as possible.
